We work with both professional and those with diabetes to try and change the way diabetes will be managed in the future.  This is to replace the need for insulin with cells that produce insulin, ideally differentiated from stem cells, and placed in a bioengineered device that provides protection from the immune system of the recipient.  This means that recipients will not need to take anti-rejection drugs once they have been implanted with the device seeded with insulin-producing cells.
